Keith Jackson (70), who has fished Butterley since he was 12, said: “The current committee are hardened carp anglers, and it seems they don’t want us pleasure anglers on there.
Nearly two tonnes of bream have been netted out, and carpers are still catching them and placing them in floating cages, waiting for them to be removed.
We’ve contacted the venue owner, the Canal & River Trust, but nobody seems willing to help. Something needs to be done before this famous silverfish venue is lost forever.”
The committee were approached for a response, but they were unavailable for comment.
