External funding is important for anyone running an angling club. For example, the Angling Improvement Fund has so far funded 240 projects, supporting angling improvements estimated to be worth an incredible £2.4 million. But did you know that Sport England’s ‘Community

Asset Fund’ and ‘Small Grants Scheme’ make over £13 million of funding available to coarse, sea and game angling clubs?

Success was enjoyed by Nottingham Federation of Anglers which received over £60,000 from Sport England to completely redevelop one of its fisheries. Secretary Ian Mclaughlin was buoyant about the opportunities this has given the Federation and said “Sales of annual memberships are on the up, we’ve attracted visiting match anglers to our open competitions and at last, all the hard work is starting to pay off!”

How does the Sport England funding work?

Community Asset Fund:
  • Awards from £15,000 to £50,000 for the construction and refurbishment of facilities. including toilets, platforms, access roads, otter fencing and so on
  • A rolling deadline with applications accepted and reviewed all year around
  • An appropriate lease for any land being developed needs to be in place – min 7 year

Small Grants Programme:
  • Awards from £300 to £10,000 are perfect for smaller projects for coaching qualifications, fish stocking and initiatives to get more people involved in angling
  • A rolling deadline with applications accepted and reviewed all year around

Here are two fantastic opportunities for your club to make significant improvements to its facilities and get more people fishing.
