The dad was fishing with his child along the Tyseley Canal when they were targeted by three youths who held them at gunpoint.
A dad has told how he was held at gunpoint and robbed of his mountain

bike in front of his young daughter as they were fishing on the Tyseley Canal.

The pair had spent Sunday near the Ackers centre in Small Heath when they were approached by three youths.

One pulled out a gun and grabbed the dad's silver mountain bike. As the thugs rode away they said they would 'shoot' the victim if he tried to follow them or call the police.

The dad-of-two, who does not wish to be named, had been fishing on the spot, near Golden Hillock Road, with his daughter since 10am, when the incident happened around 3.34pm.

He said: "We were approached by three lads and one of them managed to block me.
"I told my daughter to run and they pulled out a gun.

"I tried to attack them with my fishing rod but they ran off with my bike.

"Of them said to me, 'If you follow us, we will shoot you.'"

The 38-year-old said : "It was over in a minute. They ran off with my bike towards the Ackers Centre.

"I was frightened for my daughter's safety. Police sent armed police to the park and they took us home.

"It was serious, one of us could've been shot. It's had a very devastating impact."

The victim said the gun was 'distinctive' and jet black' like a P40.
"I'm never going back there again." he added.

"I've been told that it's happened a few times along that stretch of canal."

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "We received a call yesterday (19 Sept) at 3.45pm from a man reporting he'd been robbed of his bike and fishing tackle while on Tyseley Canal.

"The man, who was with his daughter, said he was threatened with a pistol before the offenders made off towards Ackers Centre.

Angling Direct website redirected would-be shoppers to adult sites after the firm was hacked.
Bosses at Angling Direct have moved quickly to deal with a cybersecurity breach after unauthorised activity was discovered on the firm's network late on Friday, November 5.

This activity caused the company's website to shut down, while the company's social media accounts were also compromised.

Following the incident, Angling Direct has appointed external cybersecurity specialists to investigate the cause of the interference.

An Angling Direct spokesman said: "Work continues around the clock to bring the websites back online while our 39 retail stores across the UK have remained open and continue to trade.

"As a precaution, the company has notified the relevant regulators and law enforcement agencies, including the Information Commissioner's office in the UK.

"We are mindful of our obligations regarding data. It is too soon yet to make any determination around the impact this incident has had on personal data, but we will inform any individuals in line with our regulatory obligations should there be a need to do so.

"Importantly, the company does not hold any customer financial data as our website transactions are handled by third parties.

"As matters currently stand, the board does not anticipate that this incident will have a detrimental impact on underlying trading and the company will continue to assess any cost exposure that this incident may create.

"The board will provide a further update as and when appropriate and apologises for any disruption that has been caused to customers by this incident."

ZANDER SAFE ZONE HAILED A BIG SUCCESS

1/11/2021

Canals in the Midlands where zander haven’t been removed are in their ‘best form ever’, producing both big predators and bumper nets of silvers, according to the controlling clubs.
Earlier this year, proposals for a ‘zander safe zone’, stretches where it was hoped that the Canal & Rivers Trust (CRT) would stop electrofishing and allow anglers to return the non-native species without fear of prosecution.

While the CRT is yet to make a definite decision on zander management on the canals, it has a verbal agreement in place with the Tusses Lure Division and the Lure Anglers Canal Club, under which some of its waters on the Coventry, North Oxford, and the Grand Union Canals would be left alone, so long as the clubs paid their rent and catches weren’t flaunted on social media.

Tusses bailiff Mark Powell-Bevan explained how well the stretches have been fishing since the agreement was put in place:

“I landed two double-figure zander of 10lb 4oz and 10lb 8oz in a week, and other anglers have had similar results,” he said.

“Our canals really are in the best form ever, with pleasure anglers catching silverfish every chuck. Big eels have been caught this season too, plus carp, perch and pike.”
