There mission is to drive up angling participation and the 'Get Out There' campaign is getting a boost with a new information based website www.getfishing.org.uk.
Put together by the Angling Trust and supported by the Environment
Agency and Sport England it will contribute to their goal to get more people active and fishing more often. The Get Out There - Get Fishing site details hundreds of angling events and venues, plus the facilities and activities on offer.

The successful GetOutThere campaign was launched at the end of 2015 and has reached over half a million people so far. The Trust's Sport England funded Angling Promotion Officer Rob Hughes said "GetOutThere is great as it encourages people to get the rods out more often. We know from surveys that one thing that encourages people to go fishing more often is the provision of information about where to go and what to do. We want to give them that info in a no-nonsense, easy access format and this new website does exactly that."

Will Smith, Angling Promotions Officer working to boost participation and Environment Agency rod licence sales added "There are great angling events going on in the coming months and they'll all be listed. It doesn't matter where you are or what sort of fishing you like, there's something for you. Best of all most events are absolutely free! We'll be promoting the website outside angling too - it's so important to get more people fishing for the first time."

Quality assured events designed for families, anglers who have not been fishing for a while, beginners and experienced anglers who just want to take a friend, can be found at www.getfishing.org.uk. Events including game fairs, courses and coaching as well as some cracking open access venues are detailed. The venue directory includes details of the fishing as well as maps, prices and facilities such as ease of access and car parking. One of the key aims of the site is to make fisheries and events more accessible to all, including those with limiting disability.

Rod licence fee to increase in 2017

Rod licences are set to increase by more than 11% as part of a radical shake-up to the current system.
The annual adult coarse licence will rise from £27.00 to £30.00 from April 1st 2017, with day licence set to go up a whacking 60%, from £3.75 to £6.00
But there is better news elsewhere in the plans. The current £5.00 tariff for juniors is to be scrapped and big-fish anglers who want to use three rods will no longer have to buy two licences, with a new £45.00 option available.

The other significant change to the system will see the validity of the licence run for 365 days from purchase instead of the existing expiry of March 31st.

The increases are the first in seven years and it is believed they will remain static for a further three years.

“Securing income to fund our fisheries service is one of our highest priorities,” said EA Head of Fisheries, Sarah Chare. “We have listened to anglers’ comments on the rod licence structure and are always looking for ways to be as cost-effective as possible.
“The small increase – which will be our first for seven years – will add to our funds to protect and improve fish stocks and fisheries.”
