The Mal Storey Angling Centre, based in Sutton Road, has been supplying equipment and tackle to fishermen from across the country since May 1976.
But 65-year-old Mr Storey said the time had come for him to sell up to enjoy his retirement with his wife 63-year-old Janet, with whom he set the business up.
He has sold the shop to regular customer Martin Tayloe, who will run it alongside his father-in-law Roger Harrison under the new name HT Angling.
