Steve reported this to the police, but due to dealing with other matters at the time, they couldn’t respond. He then (as all voluntary bailiffs would do), submitted a report on the Environment Agency Voluntary Bailiff website, where it was picked up by the Fisheries Enforcement Officers team.
They acted swiftly and conducted a series of local patrols spotting the car linked with these crimes. They found the person fishing without permission, and without a fishing licence.
This simple partnership between all groups helps rid our banks of illegal fishing and protect the habitats that we all enjoy and invest in.
Could you follow Steve’s example? If you are already one of our voluntary bailiffs, remember you are our eyes and ears when out on the banks.
