River TEME, POWICK
Description:
A narrow piece of river with many deeper runs and plenty of features. Access is good from car parks, but may involve climbing down steep banks to get to the swims. Like many stretches of the Teme, a rope and 'dog spike' is recommended to aid getting in and out of swims, especially after rain. A weir breaks the length into two stretches with excellent fishing for; barbel to 12lb, pike to 10lb, chub to 6lb, perch to 4lb, roach to 10oz and dace to 6oz

Tactics:
Trotting a top-and bottom float while feeding casters and hemp will pull chub. Look for swims at least 2ft deep and run the float straight down the middle. Feeding maggots can sometimes be better than casters, but small fish may be a nuisance on the grubs. Barbel on feeder fished hard pellets, often on a ground bait feeder with a long tail. Many catch the barbel on float tactics when fishing for chub, with nets of up to 20 chub boosted by three or four 'whiskers'. Deeper water by the new bridge can go to 10ft and will give the best chance of pike or perch on soft lures or small dead baits. Good Swims: Above the weir for nets of chub and roach |
