Tactics:
Roving works best for the barbel, feeding several likely swims in high water, or spotting fish in low. High oil pellets and fish meal ground bait can be introduced through an opened feeder with a long tail and a banded 8 mm hookbait. Casting upstream can be a brilliant way to fool the wise whiskers, looking for drop-back bites on a quivertip. A few swims have 3ft of water in summer conditions and can be fished with top-and bottom floats. Maggots and hemp work well for mixed nets, but swap to caster if minnows move in. The use of rope and a dog spike is recommended where the banks are steep. Good Swims: Swims around the tight bend have nice undercut banks and deeper holes for bigger fish. |
