Tactics:
A groundbait feeder with a high oil crumb mix and some added halibut pellets is a great way to target barbel and chub here. Fish a tail of around 3ft or longer in swims where they can be cast, and a banded 8 mm hooker cast into the fastest flow. Depths are typically 3-5ft. often the deepest water tight under the near bank or far bank. Casts will be 10m at most, but need to be precise to get beneath overhanging branches. |
It can be worth casting upstream and watching for drop-back bites, as this will catch out wary fish in low water. Paste wraps or soft pellets also work, and meat or casters would be worth trying. For silver fish, trot a stick float at full depth through the steadier swims with spare loose feed of maggots or casters. Single hook baits will pick up plenty of bites, but swap to double caster if minnows become a problem, and corn is a good way to target bigger fish over caster feed.
Good Swims: The narrow channel at the upstream boundary holds plenty of barbel under the nearside branches.
