NORDLEY pools
Description:
These six pools offer easy access onto wooden platforms, and great mixed fishing with the chance of a large carp. Under the banner of the mighty Birmingham Anglers Association and originally dug as trout ponds, these ponds are now mature with plenty of vegetation, in a farmland setting. Carp to 25lb, bream to 6lb, crucian carp to 1lb 8oz, roach, perch and rudd to 8oz. Pools No.l and No.2 hold the largest carp: No.3 and No.4 have more carp in double-figures rather than 20s; No.5 and No.6 have good stocks of carp to 5lb, but may also throw up a surprise.

Tactics:
Pole fishing with gear matched to landing carp is best. Use banded hard pellets, especially fished on shallow rigs. Regular loose feed will pull the fish into range and will bringthem up-in-the-water. Waggler with maggot brings nets of smaller fish at comfortable catapult range over 6 ft of water. Floating baits bring bigger carp on No.l and No.2, all the pools are 5-8 ft deep, with a regular shelf down to maximum depth. Overhanging reeds and grasses make margin fishing good into two feet of water with corn, paste or luncheon meat. Good Swims: Pegs on the windward banks usually fish better. |
