GRAND UNION CANAL

The Grand Union Canal begins or ends in our area underneath Spaghetti Junction at Salford Canal Junction where it meets with the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal and the Tame Valley Canal. As you leave Spaghetti Junction the canal passes Birminghams Star City and makes its way up through Saltley to Bordesley Junction where it meets with the Digbeth Branch Canal which leads back into Birmingham City Centre. The canal heads through Bordesley and passing under Bordesley Middleway (A4540) the canal heads out of the city centre and through Small Heath and Tyseley passing close to the Tyseley Locomotive Museum the canal heads out to Solihull. the canal continues and leaves our area passing under the M42 motorway and then meeting up with the Kingswood Branch of the Stratford Canal at Kingswood Junction, This is a short canal linking the grand Union to the Stratford canal, The Grand Union Canal continues south into Warwick where at the Warwick Aqueduct the canal crosses the River Avon and runs through Leamington Spa. The canal continues South to Napton Junction where it meets with the Oxford Canal southern section. The Grand Union runs all the way down the country finishing at the River Thames in London, with many branches running from the Grand Union along the way
