Tactics:
Punched bread over bits of liquidised comes into its own in winter, though you can still catch on squatts and pinkies. For the larger fish, tench can turn up anywhere, whilst the bream prefer the wider areas. Pole fish chopped worm and caster or take the soft pellet option. The canal is well-known for big perch, and chopped worm and caster is best for them. Basic caster fishing can sort out the bigger roach and rudd, and give you a chance of hooking a lump or two. Pike to float fished or legered sea dead baits. Roving to find the fish is recommended, unless you know you're on a shoal of food fish. The pike shouldn't be far away. Good Swims: The basins can produce big bream and perch. |
