Hereward Rise
Off Chancel Way Halesowen West Midlands B62 8SE |
Description:
The Dudley No.2 canal at Hawne Basin is a very under-rated stretch with a diverse collection of pegs with far bank features that include overhanging trees, reed beds and dense undergrowth.
This Bull Fisheries controlled stretch has all the necessary requirements to produce a good day’s canal fishing. Roach to 2 lb, perch to 4 lb, bream to 5 lb, tench, skimmers, chub and large carp all reside here.
The noted pegs near the basin bridge produce quality roach and the two pegs opposite the reed beds are often favoured for those larger fish. Mixed nets of 10lb-15lb are attainable with careful feeding the key.

Tactics:
Float fishing on the pole into 4ft of water at 7 to 8 m is the best method for plenty of bites. 6 mm soft pellets over balls of mixed micro pellets and sweet ground bait will bring action from skimmers. As the water clears, into autumn. bread punch over liquidised becomes the best option for bites from skimmers and roach. Perch on casters or worms, pole fished tight to any far bank cover. Try lobworms or a lob's tail for a real big perch. Corn is an excellent bait to target bigger fish. Fish the bomb across the turning bay for chub or carp. Try for pike with soft lures cast along the tree-line in the margins of the turning bay. Good Swims: The just on the edge of the basin in the middle of the canal it produce's big bream and perch and bonus carp. |
