MARK POLLARD : LIFE IN ANGLING - After an apprenticeship on the canals and rivers of the East Midlands, Mark Pollard is now one of the UK's top commercial match anglers. In this My Life in Angling, 'Polly' reveals his disappointment about his lack of England opportunities and how his notorious mickey-taking is made easier thanks to his size.

DENIS WHITE : LIFE IN ANGLING - During his illustrious career Denis White has helped form one of the most famous match teams ever, played a key role in the success of the England national squad and shared his expertise with thousands of youngsters to help bring new blood into the sport. Not bad for a man who spent much of his life down the pit. Angling Times caught up with the man known as 'Fatha' to get the lowdown on an action-packed career which shows no signs of coming to an end just yet.

IAN HEAPS : LIFE IN ANGLNG - Ian Heaps is a winner. From dominating on the Trent, to running a commercial fishery, everything the diminutive Northener has touched has turned to gold. His finest moment was in September 1975, when he became World Champion on his England debut on Poland's Bydgoszcz Canal. His 22lb 8oz set a record for what was then a three-hour match. Ian now runs a fishery and angling coaching school in West Wales, and is as happy as he's ever been.

JAN PORTER : LIFE IN ANGLING - Jan Porter has done it all. In a successful career spanning several decades, he has run his own tackle shop, been one of the most noticeable figures on the match angling scene and even put together an impressive personal-best list of specimen fish. A top flight match angler in the 1980s, Jan was a member of the legendary Trentman AC team who represented Nottingham & District Federation of Anglers in the ‘All England’.
|
In 1987, Trentman AC became the first team to win the Division 1 National and the Angling Times Winter League in the same season – an historic double on the Trent and Warwickshire Avon.
Jan always had a smile on his face and was an inspiration for thousands of anglers who, like us, enjoyed his TV and written work over four decades. |
