Illegal poachers have been caught fishing at a Kidderminster park over the weekend. A number of individuals were found to be fishing at Stacks Pool in Springfield Park, Broadwaters, on Saturday, July 9, following a night patrol from the Environment Agency (EA). |
"Their details were taken and they will be dealt with by our national enforcement team.
"We urge any members of the public to report any illegal fishing to our incident hotline 0870 70 60 50."
Labour councillor for Broadwaters, Steve Walker, who is one of 10 water bailiffs that patrol the area, urged people to pay for licences to help the local environment.
He added: "The Stacks Pool in Springfield Park has been over hauled.
"We are very proud of our Stacks Pool and ask for vigilance and respect towards our environment.
"A lot of time effort and money has, and still is, being invested into this area, including fish.
"We want people to fish our pool - it's only £3.00 a day or £20 annually and all bailiffs can issue day passes."
Councillor Walker also helps promote Operation Leviathan, a national campaign involving West Mercia Police which is designed to tackle illegal fishing.
